CDM250 Digital Multimeter     User's Manual

Objectives

 

To measure the following voltages using a multimeter

 

ð  total voltage supplied by individual batteries

ð  total voltage supplied by two batteries in series

ð  total voltage supplied by two batteries in parallel

 

Equipment

 

Each team will be provided

 

ð  two 9 V batteries - Positive is marked on one side of the battery

ð  two battery connectors - Red is positive

ð  one multimeter with 2 leads - Red is positive

  

Procedure

 

ð  measure voltage of each of the two 9 volt batteries.

ð  connect the batteries in parallel and measure the total voltage provided.

ð  connect the batteries in series and measure the voltage provided.

ð  calculate the expected total parallel voltage and the expected total series voltage

ð  compare the two

Notes:

When connecting batteries in series, the positive terminal goes to the negative terminal etc.

When connecting batteries in parallel positive terminals are connected and negative terminals are connected
