Voltage Divider Circuits

 

No Load Condition

 

Voltage drop over a resistor is proportional to that resistors value as a fraction of the total resistance.     (chapter 8, Ohm's law, and algebra)

Vout = V1IR2/I(R1 + R2)  =  V1R2/(R1 + R2)        

 

Load Condition

 

Vout = V1IR2/I(R1 + R2)  =  V1 (R2 || RL)/(R1 + R2 || RL)
