Plots luminosity versus temperature for stars.
Named after Danish astronomer Ejnar Hertzspring and US atronomer Henry Russell
It is a scatter graph of stars showing the relationship between the stars absolute magnitudes (intrinsic brightness) or luminosity (amount of energy radiated per unit time) versus their spectral types or classifications and effective temperatures.
