Quotations
You should always prepare for the conflict, contest, etc. you are going to be engaged in - not the one you would like to be engaged in.
Understanding
Part a
If you cannot describe the concept in your native language then you do not understand the concept.
If you can correctly diagram the concept you probably understand it; if you cannot you probably don't.
Part b (paraphrased from many others throughout history)
True understanding comes from being exposed to the concepts, principles, etc. and having them clearly explained to you, followed by
your collation, assimilation, and practice. If the collation and assimilation is faulty then study the concepts, principles, etc again. All
other things being equal, then you were not paying attention the first time. Repetition by someone for you at this stage accomplishes
nothing except the condonement of a lazy approach to academics, learning, and life.
Do not confuse the person with the moment
A modified quote from various sources
If knowledgeable people say something can be done it is probably true.
If knowledgeable people say something cannot be done it is probably false.
A modified quote from William, the Englishman
You should not always consider the fault to be in your stars or attribute it to someone else; perhaps it is because you are lazy
or are refusing to recognize reality.
There is a new coach in town!
Follow the conversation.
A modified quote from Star Trek
Just do it.
You are obviously confusing me with someone you think is interested in your excuses.
What is it about the English language that is confusing you?
Unified field theory, turkeys, and eagles
There may be a valid unified field theory out there but no one recognizes or believes it because of poor packaging.
On the other hand, it is very difficult to package a turkey so that everyone believes it is an eagle.
Computer Science
It's something that permeates everything we do in life today, and its impact will increase exponentially in the future. Many knowledgeable
observers, such as Ray Kurzweil in his book The Singularity is Near have addressed this fact. Students with at least an introductory
understanding of computer science will be better prepared for college, and whatever field they choose to enter.
Each student is provided a good foundation in a particular language and other aspects of Computer science.
Much more important than that, however, is the ability students develop to analyze a problem and then develop an algorithm or approach
to the problem’s solution. It is one thing to explain a solution to a human, but to describe a solution to a machine requires a much more thorough
approach and deeper understanding. An organized and efficient approach to solving problems, more than anything else, is what I strive for each
student to get from my courses. This ability will be useful in any discipline.
Global variables and Go To statements
It is usually a fact that global variables and Go To Statements are crutches for the mentally weak.
This is not my quote, but it is one of my favorites
“I do not feel obliged to believe that the same god who has endowed us with
sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.”
